Colombo, 31st October 2010 – hSenid Mobile, provider of Next Generation Cloud Messaging & VAS platforms, facilitated a master class on Cloud service delivery platforms (SDP) at Asia’s largest SDP conference held in Singapore last week.

Cloud Computing has made its mark in many areas of ICT and industry analysts predict its total market size could reach US$50-billion in 2011. hSenid Mobile’s key speakers highlighted the positive impact of cloud computing on the Telecom industry’s key components for service creation and hence their topic SDP in the Cloud : Strategies, Experiences and Business Models for Telcos

The workshop demonstrated how SDPs can now be embraced on the cloud, as a Platform as a Service (PaaS), and leveraged for enhanced service delivery. An insightful blend of technical and business analysis including practical references was delivered to an audience comprising of key professionals in the mobile industry value chain.

Dinesh Saparamadu, hSenid Mobile chief executive and facilitator of the Cloud workshop said: “The elasticity of the cloud enables telecom operators to move from a Capex-based to a scalable Opex model where they (operators) pay for what they use and allows them to scale their resources according to market conditions, business plans and strategies.”

Apart from the obvious investment benefits, Cloud SDPs also offer cutting edge service development and roll out capabilities on the fly, accelerating time to market new applications and services, added Saparamadu.

The cloud-based telco platform allow operators to open up their infrastructure to a wider community of service and application providers, tapping into latent creativity and generating a large pool of innovative services to be constantly rolled out. This enables operators to serve a diverse subscriber base, continuously differentiating services and manage subscriber churn effectively.

hSenid Mobile was invited to present at the event as a thought leader in line of its recent initiatives in the field of Cloud Service Delivery – most significantly the launching of its Cloud Enabled Telco Platform with a state of the Telco Application Developer Portal.

Telecom operators are also facing a revenue generating paradox in the area of mobile applications. According to Gartner, vendor App Stores are set to account for over 80% of a near US$30-billion by 2013.

Saparamadu: “Telecom operators are expected to have a minimum stake in what is supposed to be a lucrative app store business.  Losing out on revenue opportunities on app downloads as well as capturing recurring revenue from apps makes operators face the threat of being relegated to mere carrier bit pipes for traditional App stores.”

Saparamadu suggests that Telco App Stores can play a key role in helping operators regain lost ground in the Mobile Applications market. With operators being able to harness developer communities rolling out Telco Apps and with intelligent subscriber identity management and targeting capabilities, there is immense potential for the rebirth of the Telco App Store.

A panel discussion moderated by hSenid Mobile was held on Day 2 of the summit with the topic centring on the battle of Telco App Stores to regain a foothold in the Apps market.  The discussion focussed on what directions the Telco App store is to take in terms of market reach, features, availability and channels creating a wave of interest amongst Telecom operators present at the event.

The 5th annual SDP Asia Summit focussed on how telecom operators utilise the SDP to rapidly create and deliver new value-added services to improve revenues, tackle commoditization and decrease customer churn in the presence of a dynamic pool of regional and international experts across service delivery value chain.
