All organisations say “We want the benefits of the public cloud – more technology – but with more control and less risk” This is what customers seem to be saying increasingly and it is the main reason as to why organisations are exploring the features of having a private cloud. According to research, it has been predicted that the expenditure on private clouds will increase from 5% to 25% by 2018. In addition, private clouds are now considered the feature that will have the fastest expenditure within the next three years.

How can you make the vision of having a private cloud more attainable? Installing and activating for a lower cost and having as little complications as possible would help, but it all comes down to the storage facilities.

Why have a private cloud?

The first reason is that having a private cloud will mean that there is much more control over the files stored than there is with a public cloud. When a private cloud is built, data is basically at your fingertips. You will be able to establish performance levels that will be serve customers and it supports a mix of applications regardless of how they were coded.

How should the private cloud storage environment be?

There are certain factors that need to be considered when building the storage environment of the cloud:

  1. Performance -Where will your data and applications experience performance bottlenecks? Most organisations come to a common conlusions: storage. Many organisations have pinned flash as a solutions, however, it is not the only one. The key is to provide every application with its own path to improve performance levels.
  2.  Value - As more applications are built and deployed, more space needs to be available for the applications to be stored. This means that more devices and more management processes can be handled through it. The best thing that organisations can do is explore solutions that are simple rather than purchasing unnecessary components or any external software.
  3. Management -Most of the time when an organisation has currently invested in virtualization, it is easier to convert to a private cloud platform. However, in any virtualized surroundings, it is important for the storage to be manageable. Organisation should ask their service providers the question “how easy is it to manage individual virtual machines and applications?”
  4. Effective storage - The best storage that should support the private cloud is invisible, and it gives administrators the time to focus on what is the best for the organisation, without losing time by manually restoring performance.

Public cloud servers have promised to deliver shared resource functions, computing and user flexibility. With the right technology, private clouds give all the promises of the public servers but with security, control, flexibility and lower level of risk. When deploying a private cloud server, organisations that plan ahead should only invest in storage that works with intelligence and cost efficiency to support applications.
